John Warren has been part of the San Mateo County Critical Incident Stress Management Team Board of Directors since its inception as a 501©3 charity in 1993. He brings over 30 years of public safety experience spanning military and civilian fire and rescue services. He has had the privilege of fulfilling the roll of Team Coordinator for over ten years. This all volunteer group caring for the psychological and peer support needs of public safety emergency responders and hospital staff is available 24/7/365 days a year. Like many on the team John is available for large and small debriefings/defusing’s, individual peer support and is often solicited for input by local agencies building support groups of their own. He has received certification of specialized training by the International Critical Incident Support Foundation. Many of the Team’s most notable responses include the San Bruno Pipeline Explosion, Asiana Aircraft crash and Mutual Aid responses to Firefighter and Police Officer on duty deaths in Oakland, Marin County and Santa Clara County.

John Warren has over 30 years of public safety experience spanning military and civilian fire and rescue services. His career began in maritime rescue serving as a rescue boat coxswain, emergency medical technician and law enforcement officer in the United States Coast Guard. Since Serving the San Mateo Fire Department he has filled all positions of a suburban fire department including holding the rank of a chief officer for over 15 years. Incident Management Experience includes all facets of Command from single resource to expanded Unified Command in real world applications such as Wildland Fires, Hazardous Materials Incidents, Vehicle/Public Transport Accidents, and multi-jurisdictional state and federal incidents as a certified Incident Support Team member for FEMA.

John Warren continues to contribute to the security of the public by remaining involved in emergency response and public safety by retaining the position of Safety Officer in FEMA’s Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 3 and has deployed to numerous disasters including earthquakes, floods, domestic terrorism and hurricanes. He was employed after retirement with San Mateo County where he served as a Deputy Coroner/Investigator where his CISM skills have often been used assisting the public in their most sensitive times of need.
